Safer Dance Spaces
At Conexão, we want everyone to feel welcome, respected, and safe in our community.
If you have ever felt uncomfortable, unsafe, unheard, or disrespected during one of our classes, socials, parties, workshops, or community activities, we want you to know that we are here to listen and support.
You can anonymously or personally share your experience, concern, or suggestion through our Reporting Form, or speak directly with a Care Team member.
Conexão is part of Safer Dance Spaces, an international organisation that provides training and resources to dance organisers and communities. At Conexão, this commitment is reflected in our Care Team, Reporting Form, Community Values & Agreements, and Team Practices & Aspirations.
We believe that building a healthy dance community is an ongoing collective effort, and we commit to addressing challenges with honesty, care, and accountability. Learn more about Safer Dance Spaces on Instagram and Facebook.
Need support?
If something happens that does not sit right with you, or you are not sure how to handle a situation, our Care Team is here for you.
When can you reach out?
You do not need a “serious incident” to reach out. You can contact us if:
- You experienced or witnessed something that made you feel uncomfortable or unsafe.
- You need support in a situation that feels overwhelming.
- You would like to share a concern.
- You would like to suggest an improvement or provide feedback about community care, inclusion, communication, or safety.
- You simply want to start a conversation and do not have everything figured out yet.
How to contact us
You can anonymously or personally share your experience, concern, or suggestion through our Reporting Form, or speak directly with a Care Team member.
Our Care Team
Our Care Team is a group of trusted people within the Conexão team who are available to listen, support, and help people navigate difficult situations with care and respect.
You may speak directly with any of these Care Team members.
If a concern involves a Care Team member, that person will not take part in handling it.
Languages
Our Care Team can support you in English, Português, Français, Italiano, and Nederlands.
What happens after you contact us?
-
We listen and acknowledge your message
You can share at your own pace, without judgement. You will normally hear back from us within about a week, unless you reported anonymously and left no way to reach you.
-
We make an initial assessment
We consider what you shared, whether immediate support is needed, and what options may be appropriate.
-
More than one Care Team member is involved
A concern is discussed by more than one Care Team member before possible next steps are agreed.
-
We discuss possible next steps with care
Practical steps may include talking with someone, adjusting how an event is run, agreeing on boundaries, or, as a last resort, (temporarily) denying someone entry to Conexão events.
-
We follow up where possible
We let you know what is happening when we have a way to contact you. Everything stays confidential within the Care Team unless there is a serious, ongoing safety concern that requires further action.
What the Care Team can and cannot do
The Care Team is a confidential, caring first point of contact. We listen, offer support, and help you think through your situation and options.
We are not the police, a legal authority, a formal investigative body, or professional therapists or counsellors. We cannot guarantee a specific outcome or punishment for anyone involved.
Reporting anonymously
You are welcome to report anonymously. We can still consider and act on what you share wherever possible, but we cannot give you direct feedback unless you leave a way to reach you or check back in yourself.
Our Community
Conexão Community Values & Agreements describes the culture we want to build together around respect, consent, care, inclusion, communication, responsibility, and joy.
Our commitment as the Conexão Team
Team Practices & Aspirations sets out how teachers, assistants, organisers, volunteers, and other team members aim to work, learn, and remain accountable.
