Team Practices & Aspirations

This is a shared commitment we practise and aspire to, so we continue learning as a team, stay aligned, and hold ourselves accountable.

These commitments apply primarily to teachers, assistants, organisers, volunteers, and other Conexão team members. We publish them as a statement of accountability and transparency.

These practices support Conexão’s participation in Safer Dance Spaces and our ongoing work toward a safer dance environment.

Our practices and aspirations

Environment

We create a safer, welcoming environment where everyone feels respected and at ease.

We follow the procedures in place to maintain that safety and trust.

Professionalism

We arrive to classes well prepared and in a suitable state—emotionally, physically, and mentally—to lead and support others.

Consent

We actively promote and practise consent in all aspects of teaching—touch, feedback, participation, and demonstration—as well as outside the classroom.

Openness to Learning

We embrace curiosity and feedback, valuing progress over perfection and committing to continuous growth.

We are brave enough to face uncertainty and difficult conversations, approaching them with humility and care.

Team

We communicate continuously, consciously, and respectfully before, during, and after classes, making and honouring clear agreements on how we collaborate.

Culture

We honour forró’s roots and diversity, valuing all styles and expressions and welcoming differences as part of the dance’s richness.

Inclusiveness

We welcome and dance with dancers of all levels. We adapt our approach so everyone can learn, participate, and enjoy the dance floor.

Roles & Relationships

We recognise that we represent the school in all our roles—teacher, dancer, friend, organiser—and act with respect, coherence, and care.

We take extra care, in any intimate or romantic context, to ensure consent is informed and explicit, freely given, retractable at any point, and never shaped by authority or fear of social, professional, or community-related consequences.

Care

We stay attentive to what happens around us and act or speak up when something feels inappropriate or unsafe.

We are aware of the authority and influence we have as teachers and assistants and we use it responsibly.
